There are two child sponsorship projects that Seeds of Peace sustains in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The first is in partnership with the Congregation of the Daughters of the Passion of Jesus Christ and Mary Dolorosa. Through this project, a community was founded in 2002 in the capital Kinshasa, and the “House Mom of Love” center was created in 2003. The center hosts a kindergarten for 100 children between 4 and 5 years of age, and a primary school for 330 children between 6 and 11 years. The second project is in collaboration with the Passionist Sisters of St. Paul of the Cross, who founded the orphanage “House of Joy” in the city of Lumbi, in 1994. The first children who were hosted in that Institution are now young adults, who either have completed their studies and work, or are continuing University studies. Several girls have nowadays their own family, and have become mothers. In recent years, the international economic crisis has also hit hard the Democratic Republic of the Congo, making more difficult the work of the missionaries.
